Apple Macintosh OS X and Supported EPSON Products
This document provides details on available drivers and using EPSON printers with the Mac OS X Operating System. This is currently the only information we have available.
Q: Which EPSON printers are supported by Mac OS X?
A: EPSON, in conjunction with Apple, has included printer drivers on the Mac OS X CD-ROM for the following printer models:
- Epson Stylus COLOR 740
- Epson Stylus COLOR 760
- Epson Stylus COLOR 860
- Epson Stylus COLOR 880
Q: I can't find my printer model in your list of printers that support Mac OS X, when will you add more drivers to your support list?
A: Epson has been and continues to be fully committed to supporting the Macintosh market, including support for the Mac OS X operating system. Therefore we are pleased to update you on our progress in the development of OS X-compatible drivers. We had eagerly been awaiting the availability of OS 10.1 because it will enable us to offer more compatible products with greater functionality than would have been possible under the initial release of the system. As soon as we received this updated version of the operating system, the last week of September, our engineers were able to move forward aggressively with the development of drivers that will support OS X. As a result, we are pleased to announce that the following drivers are available on our website for customers to download, with additional drivers to follow in subsequent weeks.
- Epson Stylus C40
- Epson Stylus C60
- Epson Stylus C80
- Epson Stylus Photo 875DC
- Epson Stylus Photo 890
- Epson Stylus COLOR 900
- Epson Stylus Photo 1270
- Epson Stylus Photo 2000P
We will be announcing, in a few weeks, the release dates for drivers for the EPSON Stylus Color 740, 760, 860and 880, as well as our Perfection scanners and professional graphics printers that will be supported. We regret any inconvenience you may have experienced during this time. But we believe that by taking time to wait for the more fully featured operating system and subsequently taking time to properly develop and test each driver to our exacting standards, our printers will continue to provide the best image quality with OS X, as they do with other operating systems.
Q: Do the drivers, included with Mac OS X, contain all the features of Epson's current Mac drivers?
A: Some printing features are not supported in Mac OS X, including custom paper sizes, banner printing, booklet printing, and watermarks. ColorSync color matching may produce unexpected results when printing to any raster printer.
Q: Why does my color output look different from what I see on my screen?
A: Mac OS X includes the latest version of Apple's ColorSync, color matching software. This new version of ColorSync is designed to automatically tune itself to produce the best color output based on the users display monitor and display settings. Apple OS X new architecture defaults to ColorSync on, and since this new feature is designed to match each users unique monitor and display settings, it creates the color difference between the screen colors and the printed colors.
Q: I've found the list of printer models that support Mac OS X, but I can't find the drivers in your website, do you have Mac OS X drivers available for download?
A: Epson's continued effort to provide our customers with a positive OS X printing experience we have included the drivers for the supported printer models in the Mac OS X CD-ROM. By providing the printer drivers in the CD-ROM we made sure that only the latest drivers are available to our customers.
Q: Which EPSON scanners and digital camera products are supported by Mac OS X native mode directly?
A: Currently EPSON scanner and digital camera products are not supported by Mac OS X directly. Drivers are being developed, please check our website for updates. Until drivers are made available, EPSON recommends using Mac OS X Classic mode.
Q: Which EPSON scanner and digital camera products are compatible with Mac OS X Classic mode?
A: The following scanner and digital camera products are supported in Mac OS X Classic mode via USB:

** Stylus Scan Notes:

Make sure the startup disk is set to OS X before restarting. Start Classic and install Smart Panel.
2. You must install Smart Panel from its own folder. From the Software CD open the Smart Panel folder. Click on the Epson Smart Panel Installer icon to install. Before you can launch Smart Panel you must install the Stylus Scan Updater. The file can be downloaded from the Epson web site.

Q: Which EPSON Professional Graphics printer products are supported by Mac OS X native mode directly?

- EPSON Stylus Pro 10000/10000CF - Driver Version 6.63E - USB/Ethernet I/F
Q: Do the drivers, included with Mac OS X, contain all the features of Epson's current Mac drivers?
A: In the current release of Mac OS X, some printing features are not supported, including custom paper sizes, banner printing, booklet printing, and watermarks. ColorSync color matching may produce unexpected results when printing to any raster printer. However, Apple has announced that Mac OS X version 10.1 will be available in September 2001, offering an upgrade program to current OS X users. As Apple updates and adds features to the operating system, we expect to be able to increase not only the number of compatible drivers, but also the functionality of those drivers. Because we believe Apple will restore some key product functionality in that release, we are concentrating our efforts on 10.1 so that we deliver the best possible drivers.
Q: What is Epson doing to make more OS X support available?
A: Epson is fully committed to supporting the Mac OS X operating system. Our engineers are working aggressively with Apple to optimize print quality and other image features within the OS X operating system so that Epson products will continue to provide the best image quality, as they do with other operating systems.
